DAY ONE – Tuesday

 

Rome-Sulmona - Pasta & Sauces Cookery lesson

 

  • 10am: Meet in Rome at FCO Airport OR in Rome in  front of the “Atlantico Hotel” on Via Cavour, right by Termini Station in Rome (upon request)
  • Transfer from airport to the classically beautiful Roman town of Sulmona,world renowned for its confetti
  • Welcome drink aperitif, presentation of staff and introduction to the Abruzzo Cookery Holiday
  • Lunch followed by time to settle into our albergo diffuso with rooms right in the Old Town
  • Leisure time to explore your surroundings and enjoy the warm sense of welcoming Sulmona is known for, with a passeggiata along its main Corso Ovidio, its Medieval Acqueduct and its world renowned confetti shops 
  • We recommend a stop at Fernanda and Giovanna’s pretty honey-shop by the Piazza for a sweet honey-tasting and a chance to purchase lovely and tasty special gifts
  • 17:00: this afternoon sleeves up for a morning cooking class at Sulmona’s best known restaurant with Mamma and Chef Isabella to disclose the secrets of fresh pasta, lasagna, ravioli, tomato sauces and the very best of fine Abruzzese and Italian cuisine.
  • Dinnerto sample the fruits of our labour
  • Evening for a leisurely “passeggiata sul Corso”
  • A good night’s rest

           

DAY TWO – Wednesday

 

Wine Tasting – Authentic Truffle Hunt – Pizza Masterclass – Truffle Dinner

 

  • After breakfast, we head towards the beautiful Valle Reale Winery in Popoli, where our lovely hosts will introduce us to some of the most exclusive organic Abruzzo wines in stunning surroundings!
  •  A walk through the vineyards before sitting for lunch accompanied by highly selected wines knowledgably introduced and described by our hosts
  • After lunch it’s off to our lovely 4 Star Hotel Villa Danilo in Gamberale, in the Maiella National Park
  • Later this afternoon, an authentic truffle hunt in the woods with our local truffle hunter Primiano along with his precious truffle gold diggers “Ruby” and “Miss”
  • Our destination will be our host’s most secret spots in Abruzzo to unbury the precious underground delicacy… let’s cross fingers for good luck!
  • Time permitting, evening  pizza making class…….ready to spin and bake in a proper wood-burning oven??
  • Dinner will be at Villa Danilo…with our own fresh truffles!

 

DAY THREE – Thursday

 

Mozzarella - Vegetarian class at “Il Mulino” Agriturismo – La Costa dei Trabocchi – Olive Oil Tasting in hilltop Bucchianico – Transfer to Rome

Costa dei Trabocchi - Fish Masterclass along the Adriatic Coast - Olive Oil Tasting in hilltop Bucchianico

Transfer to Rome

 

Option I (Mozzarella making + Veggie Masterclass):

  • This morning we say goodbye to our hosts at Villa Danilo and we set off to a nearby small cheese factory in the area to milk a few cows and make our own fresh mozzarella  with our good host Vincenzo
  • Later in the morning we will reach the nearby Agriturismo Il Mulino in the hilltop village of Roio Del Sangro, where our hosts Chef Mirella and Pino will entertain us in a hands-on veggie cookery session
  • Our lesson will cover the preparation of vegetarian specialities using the best local produce, greens, mushrooms and truffles…of course!
  • After lunch, we will head towards the stunning and unique Costa dei Trabocchi along the Adriatic Sea and reach the head towards the pretty town of Bucchianico for an olive oil tasting experience under the guidance of our lovely olive oil sommelier Francesca at her passionately restored 17th century olive mill
  • Transfer to Rome...arrivederci Abruzzo!

Option II (Fish Masterclass):

  • This morning we say goodbye to our hosts at Villa Danilo and head to the Adriatic Coast.
  • Our drive will take us along the beautiful and unique Costa Dei Trabocchi, where we will meet our very own Mamma Elisa
  • She will guide us through a hands-on preparation of fine, yet simple, fish dishes
  • Lunch will be a true feast to enjoy both the fruits of our labour and the fruits of the sea

directly from the sparkling Adriatic!

  • Visit to the nearby XII century Abbey of S. Giovanni in Venere overlooking the stunning Golfo di Venere and one of the oldest olive trees known to mankind!
  • Then we head towards the pretty town of Bucchianico for an olive oil tasting experience under the guidance of our lovely olive oil sommelier Francesca at her passionately restored 17th century olive mill
  • Transfer to Rome…arrivederci Abruzzo!
